Process & Philosophy | Custom Design | Building Relationships | Complementing Nature | Tradition & Technology | Outside & Inside

Many of the homes we design could be thought of as "traditional" mountain design styles which embody some of the same principles and characteristics as historical architectural styles. Some of these design influences include the grand lodges of the American West, the rich tradition of our National Parks Service architectural heritage, and the "Arts and Crafts" style originally favored almost a century ago. Closer to home, the Colorado ranching and mining industries also provide rich, historical ties to the past.

These traditional design styles offer several important lessons including a respect for nature, the beauty of using natural materials for construction, and appropriate sense of scale and massing for buildings located in scenic, natural settings. However, we believe that it's equally important to incorporate modern thinking and technology into the homes we design.

Appearances can be deceiving: rustic logs, stonework and re-claimed barnwood siding often belie the true structural framework beneath, including steel beams, composite wood joists & beams, and pre-fabricated roof trusses. Our homes also incorporate state-of-the-art mechanical, heating and lighting systems which can be turned on and off from any distance through the use of today's "smart house" technology. In addition, we incorporate sustainable materials and construction methods, utilize "green building" strategies and have the capability to perform energy consumption analysis for each project, a process leading to an "Energy Star" rating for the home if our clients so desire.

Ultimately, our goal is to combine the best of traditional design styles and modern technology, in order to create a home that is as functional and comfortable to live within as it is beautiful, well-suited to its setting and timeless in appearance.
